Health Literacy and Complications in People With Type 2 Diabetes: An Exploratory Study

Introduction: A person with diabetes is subject to developing micro and macrovascular complications prevention requires an active role from the person. So, health literacy should have a preponderant in of people but this link yet not fully understood. The objective study understand relationship between prevalence mellitus type 2 (DM2). Methods: This multicentric transversal observational exploratory study. survey was conducted two instruments, Medical Term Recognition Test (METER) Newest Vital Sign (NVS), filled out by DM2 coming consultation primary centers three main regions Portugal. Results: In sample (n=141), 50.6% were male, 41 88 years old, 56% earned more than minimum wage. Using METER tool, it found that 57.4% diabetic patients had functional literacy. Adequate 24.1% NVS tool. Also tool 36.2% subjects s high probability limited Utilizing statistically significant decrease observed individuals (p=0.001).
